For the last several years, this blog has been my primary blog. It hasn't been my only blog, because I've tested several dozen blogs on a variety of blogging platforms. So far, this one has done the best in terms of search engine results and the number of people who have been kind enough to visit and read what I've been saying. You may or may not know, or even care, but this blog is powered by Userland Software's Manilla server. It was developed by Dave Winer and all the team at Userland, and, in many ways, Manilla is still the most powerful blogging platform I've ever used. However, WordPress has come a long way in the last couple of years and now I can do more of what I want to do with a WordPress-powered blog than I can here. It has been a difficult decision. It's always difficult to change horses in mid-stream, and I'm very happy with what I've been able to do here, but there comes a time when you have to change to move forward. So, I've decided that my primary blog will now be 21st Century Affiliate Marketing and I invite you to visit it. If you want to keep up with what I'll be writing there, I invite you to subscribe to the RSS feed or via email. There are two main reasons for the change. (1) There are many plugins available for WordPress that make it very easy to extend the functionality of what I can do. I don't plan to overload 21st Century Affiliate Marketing with a lot of plugins, but I've installed several that help me do what I want to do there. (2) It will be much easier to comment on my articles on 21st Century Affiliate Marketing. Here, you have to register in order to comment and you have to be logged in when you want to do so. Many people over the last few months have told me that they would have replied, but they just don't want to register for another online account. I can appreciate that. I'm getting to that point, myself. On 21st Century Affiliate Marketing, you do not have to register or login in order to leave a comment. I think that's important and is one of the main reasons I'm making the change. One thing I don't like about the default WordPress setup is that all comments are tagged with a "nofollow" code so the search engines won't go to the URL you specify when you make your comment. I think that's wrong. I know that the intent is to reduce comment spam, but I think it's the wrong way to fight it. So, I've installed a "dofollow" plugin so you'll get a bit of linklove when you leave a comment. I've also installed a plugin called CommentLuv that does something very interesting. When you leave a comment, CommentLuv will attempt to find the last thing you wrote on the site you specified. If it can find it, you'll get another link to that last posting. This assumes that the site you enter is a blog or other site with an easily found RSS feed. Finally, I've installed a plugin called SezWho, which links to a service that aggregates your comments on multiple blogs, if they have installed SezWho. SezWho provides a ranking service and you can rank my articles from one star to five stars (five is best), and you can also rank all the comments. I urge you to rank what you read on 21st Century Affiliate Marketing. It's easy. All you have to do is click one of the stars. Click 5 stars if you love it and think it's great, or click one of the others if you don't . Remember, ranking should be based on the quality of the writing and clarity of presentation, not on whether you agree or disagree. However, nobody can dictate what you do. So, regardless of what criteria you use, please rank what you read. And, please comment if you have something to add to the discussion or if you have any questions about the articles or other comments. A blog only comes alive when there is regular interaction. The bottom line is that, on 21st Century Affiliate Marketing, you'll get a minimum of three links when you leave a comment, if you leave the URL of your blog when making a comment. Seth Godin, marketing genius, online entrepreneur, and founder of Squidoo.com, has opened a new social networking site, and membership is by invitation only, at this point. He has an interesting way to qualify new members and to keep out the tire-kickers. I followed the steps a couple of days ago and was invited to join the Triiibe. (Yes, that's three "i"s in the name. He has an interesting explanation, in that it takes at least three people to become a group, and that the domain he wanted was already taken.) The Triiibe is hosted on Ning.com, a site that I really like and which hosts my Squidoo Marketing community. (If you use Squidoo as part of your marketing mix, you're invited to join us there.) When I made it into Triiibe, I found almost 1,000 other people interested in the same topics I am, which include leadership, tribe building, marketing, and so forth.
